Imagine being in a situation where you need to get information out immediately to receive help but there is just no time to call someone, including 911. Whether you are stranded or a victim of a violent crime it always seams to happen that help is never around when you need it. Let’s face it, if help were that close, you probably wouldn’t be in the terrible situation to begin with.

Alert Someone was designed as a resource to help you in your time of need. Let’s say you are someone who wants to go for a walk in the park. You want to be independent, but with the creeps that walk our streets these days, can you really do that? Or, you have moved away from family and really don’t have anyone close by that you can call upon or trust to go with you. Or, maybe you are someone like me, who enjoys a good fishing trip but doesn’t always tell family members exactly where you are going and have a boat that starts when it wants to. Or, everyone that you would tell where you are going is asleep because of the time of day or night that you are venturing out.

I could go on and on with outdoor activities, or even indoor activities. The point is, you want to remain independent but don’t want to disturb or inconvenience anyone “just in case”.

Well my friend, Alert Someone is for you. Here is how the Alert Someone app works:

When you press Alert Someone, the app will send a text message to up to 3 pre-designated contacts. The text will alert them that you are in need of assistance and will give the GPS location of your device at the time that the Alert Someone button is pressed. Also sent in the text will be a map of the same GPS location showing your location. The location sent of your location will either be your exact location or an approximate location. (Obviously, this will depend on various factors with your device and the network. Even if the location given is not exact, it is a starting point if no one knows where you are to begin with.)

When you press Call 911 (just like the button says) you will immediately call 911 without having to navigate through your phone to the dial pad to then dial 911. Your phone will call the local Emergency Operations Center. ***Please note: the device that Alert Someone is installed on must be a working phone capable of calling 911 and any charges required would apply. ***

The 3 Friends phone numbers that are entered must be a good working number that can receive a text message. (Text message rates will apply to all devices, both sending and receiving). After completing the Registration, contact each person you have listed and advise them of the Alert Someone app and any special instructions (call 911, call you, call a family member or friend, etc.) that they should fulfill on your behalf in the event they receive a text from your Alert Someone app. At the moment that you are safe and can make a phone call safely, you should call your 3 Friends and also any emergency service agency that were called on your behalf. If for instance the police were called to assist you, they will need as much information from you as possible to better assist. Or, if they are not needed, then they would want to know that as well.

With Alert Someone you can have piece of mind knowing that help is just a touch away; even from as far away as across the country, or further. We cannot always prevent terrible things from happening or keep the creeps where they belong; but it is nice to know that when you need help you can call upon friends to help you. Alert Someone is another tool in your toolbox to help you live life on your terms, free and unafraid.

*** Alert Someone should not replace common sense thinking and proper steps to protect you. You should always let someone know where you are going, how long you will be there, and what route you will take. Consider taking a buddy with you. Stay safe – know your limitations, know the dangers of where you are going and what you are doing.
